A Day in Florence

Today we had a great guided walking tour of the Historic Centre of Florence.  I loved walking down some of these narrow Italian streets.

And of course I saw a lot of great architecture, statues and cathedrals!

Our guide took us to Piazza della Signoria which is an L-shaped square in front of Palazzo Vecchio.

Palazzo Vecchio is the Town Hall of Florence and is among the most impressive town halls of  Tuscany.

Here is where I saw some of the various eye-catching statues!  At the entrance of the Palazzo Vecchio is a copy of David.  The original by Michelangelo is being kept at the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts.

Florence certainly has it's share of squares and the Piazza della Repubblica is in the centre of Florence.

Today there was a fun outdoor market set up right in the center of the square.

Next stop is one of the most visited places in Europe and the World, Piazza del Duomo.

Giotto's bell tower (campanile)

No trip to Florence is complete without seeing the Pont Vecchio Bridge!  It is the oldest of the six bridges in Florence that span the Arno river.

The Loggia del Mercato Nuovo was a fun place to do some shopping with the outdoor vendors

It was fun to see some street entertainer playing jokes on people as they passed by.

Our day ended with a nice dinner in a small café and then we danced the night away at a trendy disco tech.
